Book Publishing

Home Renovation (Barnes & Noble Basics, January 2004) is a how-to
book that provides concise, easy to follow advice for busy homeowners who want to renovate but need to know the basics about planning a renovation, financing, hiring architects and contractors, and renovating kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, attics, basements and storage areas. As the author, I worked with the editor to determine which topics would be covered and the structure of the book, then researched and wrote all content to fit the format of the Basics series.

Entertainment Architecture: Technology & Design (PBC International, 2001) profiles innovative examples of how architecture and interior design are used to inform and entertain. PBC International was a publisher that specialized in books about and for architects and designers. While the book was geared to this professional audience, the publisher also wanted to make the subject accessible to laypeople interested in the field. I researched the various projects and wrote text to accompany, but not compete with, the lavish photography.
Ada’s Daughter (Pointed Arrows, May 2011). The author was looking for a writer who would collaborate with her over several months and help her bring to life her memoir about growing up in Nigeria and surviving abuse. I provided extensive editing services: helping determine the structure of the book, which elements should be emphasized or deleted, character development, line editing, and, essentially, helping the author find her voice.
